Batul (Narancs alma, Üveg alma)

Productivity Very high productivity, though not necessarily in every season. Fitted for cool, humid regions.
Ripening period Late September, early October. However, due to its susceptibility to fall, usually it is harvested earlier. Can be consumed from November until March.
Fruit characteristics Medium-sized or small (100 grams), round often slightly flattened. The yellow ground colour is blushed with a red overcolour on the sun-expose side. The stem is short. The pulp is firm, succulent, and it tastes a pleasant sweet-sour. Can be stored under more simple conditions as well.
Tree characteristics The trees have a fast growth rate, a spherical canopy with dense twigs. Buds usually grow on the outer parts of the tree.

 

At the 2015 Milan’s World Fair the Mosolygós Batul apple represented Hungary as well.

Beregi Sóvári

Productivity Regular, high rates of productivity. Early fruit bearing.
Ripening period From October until December
Fruit characteristics Flattened on both ends, appears to be high, round-shaped, chunkier on one side than the other.  The skin is thin, smooth and very shiny; yellowish-green coloured at the beginning, that turns into straw-yellow later, which is covered on almost the surface with a yellowish-red overcolour. The pulp is white, crispy, but tender when fully ripened. Very succulent, it tastes sweet, with a gentle acidic flavour. The time for harvesting is the middle of September.
Tree characteristics Fast growth rate, though trees. The upright growing canopies have a dense foliage.

Ripening period Harvesting can be started from early October
Fruit characteristics Medium large, red, intensely striped, similar to the ‘Wagner-díjas’ cultivar. The shape is round, regular. The pulp is white, it has a pleasant, spicy, sour taste. Storage characteristics: can be stored well, until the end of February.
Tree characteristics Loose, slightly hanging, broad, cone-shaped branches. Buds on short spurs, prefers wet conditions. Susceptible to scabs.

Starts bearing fruits early. Consistent and high productivity.

Entz Rozmaring

Productivity Starts bearing fruits late, but then with high productivity.
Ripening period From December until February
Fruit characteristics Has an oblong round shape. The skin is thin, smooth, greasy to touch and rather shiny. Whitish-green coloured at the beginning, which turns into straw-yellow, more bright yellow on the sunny side, with a gentle red blush. The pulp is tender, succulent, and it has a sweet and gently tart, pleasant taste. The time for harvesting is the middle of October.
Tree characteristics Particularly lush. The trees have an upright growth habit, although the sprawling branches form a densely foliated, spherical canopy.

 

Fekete tányéralma

Productivity Early and high productivity.
Ripening period January–March, but can be stored until April.
Fruit characteristics The fruits have a flattened, irregular round shape. Medium-large, sometimes large. Th skin is rather thick, resilient, shiny, smooth and dry to the touch. It has a light green ground colour and blushed with a burnt umber overcolour. The pulp is greenish or beige, dense, rather tender and it has a pleasant spicy taste.
Tree characteristics The trees have an upright growth habit and the canopies are loose and broad.

 

Gravensteini

Productivity Early fruit bearing, high productivity, but susceptible for shedding and periodicity.
Ripening period Harvesting can be started from late August, can be consumed from September until November.
Fruit characteristics Medium large or large, flattened shape, finned, often unproportionate. The yellowish ground colour is striped with a bright red overcolour. It has a pleasant, aromatic taste; sensitive to bruises.
Tree characteristics The trees have a very fast growth rate and a sprawling canopy.

Not good pollinator cultivar (triploid pollens), thus it can only be planted together with two good pollinator trees. Prone to Parthenocarpy. The Jonathán, Téli arany pármen, Cox narancs renet and the Asztracháni piros are good pollinators.

Húsvéti rozmaring

Productivity Mid-late or late fruit bearing, high but periodic yields.
Ripening period Late-ripening: can be harvested in early or mid-October, can be consumed from December until June
Fruit characteristics Medium large, slightly elongated, it has a greenish yellow ground colour, with a dim red blush on the sunny side. The skin is thick, rather waxy. The pulp is firm, it tastes slightly tart. Can be transported well.
Tree characteristics The trees have a fast growth rate; during young age the canopies grow upright, after fruit bearing, the canopies become broad and hemisphere-shaped. Undemanding cultivar, resistant to diseases.

Produces good pollens.

London pepin

Flowering, pollination Produces good pollens. Jonathán and the Téli arany parmen are good pollinators.
Productivity Rather early fruit bearing, average productivity, susceptible to periodic yield.
Ripening period Late-ripening: can be harvested from the second half of October; can be consumed from November until late March.

Masánszki (Magyarvalkó)

Fruit characteristics Small apple. It has a slightly conical shape, only slightly irregular. The skin is thin but resilient, shiny, waxy to the touch. The ground colour is greenish and yellow-green, which turns into a straw-yellow shade of golden yellow when fully ripened. The pulp is white or beige, crispy, gently granular, juicy and it has a winy sour-sweet, spicy flavour.

 

Nemes sóvári

Flowering, pollination Good pollinators are Cox narancs renet, Jonathán, Starking and Téli arany parmen.
Productivity Very high, but periodic productivity. Late fruit bearing.
Ripening period Can be harvested from late September - early October; can be consumed from December until late April.
Fruit characteristics Medium-sized, round, columnar. The ground colour is light green, which turns into whitish with crimson stripes and a waxy bloom. The short stem sits in a tight pit, the eye cavity is broad, opened. The pulp is white, semi-firm, juicy, and it has a fine taste and fragrance. It has a long shelf life.
Tree characteristics Especially strong and stout twigs with a reddish brown colour and dense lenticels. The canopies grow large.

Ripening period In November, can be consumed until February.
Fruit characteristics Large or very large. Flattened, sometimes slightly spherical. On side is usually chubbier than the other. It has a resilient, thick, smooth, skin that is waxy to the touch. It has a dim green colour, which turns into green-yellow and bright yellow on the sun-exposed side, as the fruit ripens. The pulp is yellow-white, with green veins. Rather tasty, crispy, juicy and it has a spicy, winy flavour.
Tree characteristics Forms an irregular canopy.

Not appropriate for storing.
Tree characteristics Large, dense and hanging canopies with long spurs. Do not tolerate pruning well.

 

Sikulai

Flowering, pollination Mid-blooming.
Productivity Late fruit bearing, high productivity.
Ripening period Ripens in late September, early October.
Fruit characteristics Medium-sized fruit, with a flattened round shape. The skin is slightly shiny, has a golden yellow colour when fully ripened, which is almost entirely covered with stripes of dark burgundy. The pulp ia greenish-white, dense, slightly juicy, sweet-sour, slightly tart. Can be consumed from December until April.
Tree characteristics The trees have a semi-fast growth rate and a dense, spherical canopy. Undemanding cultivar, prefers mountain climates, yields best under warm and humid conditions. Resistant to diseases and pests; due to its resistance against fire blight, it is emphasized as gene source by the UCB

 

Széchenyi Renet

Ripening period From October until January
Fruit characteristics Slightly flattened, round shape. The skin has a light red or red ground colour and is waxy to the touch. The pulp is soft, juicy, it tastes sweet-sour and is fragrant.
Tree characteristics Grows a small, closed canopy.

 

Tartós Gusztáv

Flowering, pollination The Jonathan, Batul and Aranyparmen are high flower producers.
Productivity Good, high productivity.
Ripening period Prolonged ripening from late September until late November
Fruit characteristics Large, attractive fruit, with a raspberry coloured striped. The shape is oblong, slightly conical and similar to ‘Starking’.  The pulp is butter-yellow and has a sweet flavour. Tolerates storage moderately, it becomes slushy.
Tree characteristics Grows a loose canopy which isn’t prune to scabbing, is demanding but cold-tolerating, prefers wet soils and doesn’t prefer leaf fertilization with molecular sulphur.

 

Téli arany parmen

Flowering, pollination Produces very good pollens. Good pollinators are Cox narancs renet and the Jonathán.
Productivity Consistent and high productivity. Early fruit bearing
Ripening period Ripened fruits can be harvested from late August until mid-September, can be consumed until December.
Fruit characteristics Medium-sized fruit. It has a greenish ground colour that turns into orange with orange-red stripes as the fruit ripens. The stem is sometimes fleshy. The pulp is yellow-white, semi-firm, juicy and mealy, when harvested late. It has a pleasant, flavoursome, sweet-sour taste and a nice fragrance.
Tree characteristics The trees have a steadily upright growth habit, and loose, short budding parts, lacking of forks.

 

Téli banánalma

Flowering, pollination  
Productivity Good. Undemanding in regard the planting site.
Ripening period Can be harvested from late September until early October, can be consumed until April
Fruit characteristics Medium-sized or large, round-shaped fruit. The skin is slightly waxy, the yellow ground colour has a carmine red blush on the sun-expossed side. The pulp is firm, it tastes a harmonic sweet-sour.
Tree characteristics The trees have a medium-fast growth rate and a loose, slightly spreading canopy.

 

Téli fehér kálvil

Flowering, pollination  
Productivity Average. Very demanding in regard the planting site. Susceptible to powdery mildew and to speckling.
Ripening period Can be harvested from late September; can be consumed until March.
Fruit characteristics Most often medium-sized fruit, with an asymmetric, truncated cone shape. Densely finned around the eye cavity. The yellow-green ground color has a darker yellow overcolouring on it. The pulp is firm, sensitive to transportation, juicy, fragrant and has a winy taste. Excellent table fruit.
Tree characteristics The trees have a fast growth rate, and grow very large and bulky canopies.

The pulp is beige in colour, dense in texture, crispy and succulent.  It has a spicy, sweet and slightly acidic, very good flavour and a strawberry-like fragrance.
Tree characteristics The trees have a fast growth rate and an upright growth habit, forming a rather leafy, voluminous, spherical canopy.

 

Török Bálint

The pulp is greenish-white, very juicy, and it has a sweet, winy flavour and a pleasant, gentle fragrance
Tree characteristics The trees have a fast growth rate, and grow bushy branches forming a large, bulky canopy that in mature trees become hanging. Doesn’t tolerate regular pruning. Prefers humid, compact soils with greater depth and moist, cooler climate.
